The 5th graders have been having music class each week. For our first school-wide circle time, the 5th graders performed "America the Beautiful" in sign language. They did an inspiring job of it!
In both Readers and Writers Workshops, the 5th graders have begun to study the components of Non Fiction reading and writing. This will help them for the school years to come, to be efficient learners and help them to know how to find information that they need.

Dear 5th Grade Families,
We want to welcome you into our classrooms! We look forward to getting to know all of you through phone calls, notes, e-mails, and we look forward to meeting you in person at the OPEN HOUSE ON SEPTEMBER 14TH. In this welcome note, we are including some basic information about how 5th grade will work this year. Mr. Skinner (room 205) & Mrs. Baker(room 206) are your homeroom teachers. Ms. Seabrook is our ELL specialist for 5th grade.

All Homework will be recorded by your child, in your child’s calendar planner each day. Please initial each day’s box, to show that you know that your child completed his or her homework that evening and to check for any special notes. Any homework not completed will result in a loss of recess privileges, in order to make up that homework.

Tuesday: Math
Wednesday: Math & Social Studies
Thursday: Math & Social Studies
INITIAL AREAS OF STUDY

While we are beginning the school year with the specialist teachers of Culture and Technology, we will also rotate and have Science and Physical Education as well. We will keep you updated each month about what is happening in the 5th grade. If you have access to the internet, you can check our school website for more frequent updates. (worldcultures.spps.org)
If you ever have any questions or comments, please contact us during school hours at 651-778-3200 or by e-mail.
Mr. Michael Skinner: michael.skinner@spps.org
Mrs. Julie Baker: julie.baker@spps.org
Ms. Elena Seabrook: elena.seabrook@spps.org
Please return the forms sent home today, as soon as possible. It is essential that we have phone numbers and e-mail, if you have it, so that we can be in communication with you about your child’s learning or any concerns or areas to celebrate. Also, your child needs to have 5 notebooks and 6 folders for school. Please contact us if this is a problem.
We’re looking forward to a great year of learning with you & your children!
Sincerely,
The 5th Grade Teaching Team
